BERLIN – Bel Ami, the period drama starring Twilight heart throb Robert Pattinson with Uma Thurman will have its world premiere out of competition at the Berlin international film festival.
The drama, the feature debut of Brit directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, is based on a novel by French writer Guy de Maupassant and is the story of a young man’s rise to power in Paris. Christina Ricci, Kristin Scott Thomas and Colm Meaney also star

Glasgow Film Festival 2012 has announced next month’s programme of premieres, special guests and unique events – with its preceding short film and youth festivals meaning that film-lovers can look forward to a packed month of attractions.

The main festival runs from 16th to 26th February in 16 venues across the city. Meanwhile the Glasgow Youth Film Festival takes place from 5th to 15th February, and the Glasgow Short Film Festival takes place over the weekend from the 9th to the 12th.

Target Hosts Late-Night DVD Release Event for “Twilight Saga” Fans

Event features an exclusive first-look at scenes from the upcoming final movie and chance to score a real prop flower from the famed wedding scene

MINNEAPOLIS (Jan. 17, 2011) —Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) announced that nearly 500 stores across the country will extend store hours to host a release event for Summit Entertainment’s “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” available on DVD and Blu-ray. Beginning at 11 p.m. on Feb. 10, fans will be shown an exclusive, world premiere scene from the fifth and final film, Breaking Dawn – Part 2. Then, at midnight, fans can purchase the Target exclusive Breaking Dawn – Part 1 DVD Limited Collector’s Edition that includes an authentic prop flower from the wedding scene beautifully encased in an acrylic keepsake. The special edition DVD and Blu-ray will also be available.

“We’re making Target the Twilight Saga destination this February,” said John Butcher, vice president of entertainment, Target. “By extending our store hours, fans will not only get their hands on the exclusive merchandise first, but they’ll also get an exciting sneak peek of the final film.”

Twilight Saga fans can now pre-order the exclusive, Limited Collector’s Edition DVD or Blu-ray, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part I,” and purchase an assortment of new merchandise inspired by the films at Target.com/Twilight. Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate have agreed to walk down the aisle, combining the town’s leading minimajors in a cash and stock deal worth $412.5 million.

The deal, which has been expected to close for the past week, was announced at the close of the market Friday.

The union brings the “Twilight” franchise under the same roof as “The Hunger Games,” which Lionsgate is banking on to revitalize its film slate. The last of the “Twilight” pics, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2,” due to open Nov. 16, is likely to take in as much as $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

The first installment of what Lionsgate hopes will be a franchise based on the popular book series, “Hunger Games” opens March 23. The trailer for the pic got a boost with its target aud in running with Summit’s “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1,” which did boffo business following its Nov. 20 domestic bow.

Lionsgate and Summit have had discussions about a union going back as far as fall 2008, just before the bow of the first “Twilight” pic. Those discussions resumed last fall in the wake of Lionsgate’s settlement with longtime adversary Carl Icahn under which the billionaire agreed to sell off this stake end his three-year quest

“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2″ may not be the end of Bella, Edward and Jacob’s on-screen journey, according to the head of the franchise’s new Hollywood home.
The chief executive of Lions Gate Entertainment, which on Friday acquired “Twilight” film studio Summit Entertainment for $412.5 million, said he believes the film franchise will continue to have value to his company,even after the Nov. 16 release of the fifth movie completes the adaptation of author Stephenie Meyer’s four books.

“I’m anticipating ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2′ being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office,” said Jon Feltheimer, predicting the next film would slightly outdo the $697 million global take of “Breaking Dawn Part 1.”

Asked whether the franchise would continue in some form for Lions Gate, he added, “It’s hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn’t have ongoing value. It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration. So the simple answer is ‘Boy I hope so.’”
One person close to the acquisition deal but not authorized to speak publicly suggested that because Lions Gate, unlike Summit, has a television production unit, it could adapt “Twilight” for the small screen.

Asked whether there was a possibility of bringing “Twilight” to television, Feltheimer answered, “I would certainly hope so.”
